Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Dr. Murphy has found abdominoplasty to be incredibly effective at re-establishing the contour of an abdomen left with excess saggy skin and poor muscle tone after pregnancy or significant weight loss. He frequently combines it with liposuction of the flanks or hips to optimize the result. During the procedure, the excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is thinned with removal of the deep fat layer. The lax muscle layer is tightened narrowing the waist as well. Some patients do well with a lesser mini-tuck with a shorter incision and easier recovery. Once again, a garment is worn for a number of weeks to support the abdominal wall while it heals.

The procedure is performed under general or epidural anesthesia. The patient may go home that night or spend the night in the hospital.
