Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty, known more commonly as a "tummy tuck," is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. The procedure can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen. But bear in mind, it does produce a permanent scar, which, depending on the extent of the original problem and the surgery required to correct it, can extend from hip to hip. The best candidates for Abdominoplasty are men or women who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin that won't respond to diet or exercise. The surgery is particularly helpful to women who, through multiple pregnancies, have stretched their abdominal muscles and skin beyond the point where they can return to normal. Loss of skin elasticity in older patients, which frequently occurs with slight obesity, can also be improved.

The surgery itself takes 2 to 4 hours depending on size, and excess of skin. Dr Maguire does prefer his patients stay overnight in the hospital. You will have 3 to 4 drains held surgically in place for at least a week. The recovery time on a tummy tuck is 2 to 4 weeks for light to normal activity. Patience and listening is the key to recovery. After surgery a compressive garment must be worn at all times underneath the clothes for approximately 4 to 6 weeks. It is very important to wear post-operative garments to aid the body in healing properly.

After a patient is fully recovered from surgery they are able to start Synergie treatments in our medi-spa. The first 12 treatments are complimentary and are a half hour twice a week for maximum improvement. Synergie is a vacuum assisted massage therapy that tightens and tones the skin while minimizing the appearance of cellulite. It works through the lymphatic system so it is recommended that the patient drink plenty of water.
