Education and Experience for John L. Burns, M.D.

Dr. John L. Burns is a Clinical Instructor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and is in private practice with a renowned group of plastic surgeons at The Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute in the Tom Landry Center on the campus of Baylor University Medical Center.

Dr. Burns was raised in Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. At Vanderbilt, he was a member of the Honor Society and was a varsity letterman in track.

Dr. Burns completed his medical training at the University of Texas Medical Branch graduating summa cum laude from the research honors program. As one of the top students, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary society. He stayed at the University of Texas Medical Branch where he completed a residency in Plastic Surgery.

In addition, he completed externships in microvascular surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX and cosmetic surgery with Drs. Tom Baker and James Stuzin in Miami, FL. Dr. Burns completed a fellowship in laser surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center under the direction of Drs. A. Jay Burns and Rod J. Rohrich. His leadership in the field is evidenced by the numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters he has published on the subject of plastic surgery.
