When I learned that I had breast cancer, I was scared, just like every woman who learns she has cancer. I was very fortunate though, to have an amazing team of doctors, which included Dr. Shahram Salemy, as my plastic surgeon, a supportive family, and many caring friends. This helped me to keep a positive upbeat attitude towards the challenges ahead. When my husband, James, and I visited Dr. Salemy for the first time, we had limited knowledge of what was available to me in the area of reconstructive surgery. Dr. Salemy not only provided us with very detailed options, but he was warm, compassionate, and quite humorous. When we walked out of his office, we looked at each other and blurted out at the same time, "I like him." We laughed, and realized that I was in great hands with having Doctor Salemy on my team.

During the long process between the mastectomy and the completion of the reconstructive surgery, Doctor Salemy was always there, supportive, caring and cheerful. I wish all doctors had his "bedside manner." He took time at every appointment to make sure that I understood every step of the process and to answer any questions that I had. Once he even took time to go out to the waiting room to meet my 10 year-old son, who he knew was having a tough time with the thought of Mom having cancer. Before the whole process was complete, I became very tired of medical appointments, both scheduling them and going to them. However, I found myself always looking forward to the appointments with Doctor Salemy. Those were the appointments that were helping me to feel better about myself. You could tell that it was very important to him that I was pleased with the final result. I can proudly say that I am very pleased with the results and consider myself very fortunate to have had such a wonderful plastic surgeon on my team.
