The abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck," has become a popular body contouring procedure, as techniques have been refined over recent years to give patients more treatment options. A tummy tuck at our practice can benefit patients looking for a flatter, firmer stomach, when abdominal exercises and a healthy diet have no effect.
When evaluating a patient's abdomen, there are three main issues that we will consider:
1. Amount of fat present
2. Tightness of the stomach muscles
3. Quality of the skin - looseness, tightness, thickness etc
If a patient has excess tummy fat, lax tummy muscles and loose skin, the best procedure is an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck. This procedure removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen, and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall. This procedure is particularly helpful to women who, through pregnancy, have stretched their abdominal muscles and skin to a point where they are unable to return to normal, but would like to restore their youthful figures. Other patients who benefit from this surgery are those men or women in relatively good shape who are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose skin in the abdominal area, which cannot be controlled with traditional diet and exercise methods. Severe loss of skin elasticity can also be a problem for patients who have experienced huge weight loss, and the procedure can greatly improve their body contour. After tummy tuck surgery, patients will have noticeably flatter and firmer abdominal areas, making them look slimmer and healthier. Email Dr. Joseph Back to top
